Services

The first step in our Consultation process is to sit down with you and your child to establish your needs.  Whether it’s someone to come with you to an appointment or managing your childs behaviours we will make a plan together.

Time will be taken to get to know your child in all their environments and your family.  Our comprehensive plan will be put together to determine the overall approach and the goals we set for your family.  These goals may include some of the additional services we offer and look at connecting your with the necessary agencies.

I will go over the plan extensively and provide support as required. I will teach you practical ways to implement it into your everyday life and maintain close contact with you, providing
you with regular progress reports.

Some of the additional services we offer include:

One on one therapy guided by the principles of ABA.  Every  persons learning style is unique.  Right now there are multiple Approaches and Treatments for Autism including Anti-Yeast Therapy, the Lovaas Method, Auditory Training, Holding Therapy, Higashi and many others. My one-on-one therapy will be specific to your child and use their natural learning style to dictate my approach.

Tutoring.  Inclusion is something we want for every child but having a child with Autism in a mainstream class can be difficult for everyone, most importantly the child themselves.  My tutoring program offers your child a kick start with a tutor who is trained and can understand their special style of learning needs.  Subjects include English as a Second Language, Mathematics, Language, Science, Technology, Social Studies.  I also offer a special all round session including basic Reading and Writing.

Group music and movement sessions.  *Subject to registration.  These sessions include singing, movement to music, and playing instruments. Music therapy is a good medium for kids with developmental disabilities because it requires no verbal interaction.  Music is by nature structured, facilitates play, can aid in socialization and influence behaviour, plus it’s fun.

Family sessions.  Group sessions for the whole family can help to highlight areas that need work and specific things that stress you out.  By addressing these in a non-confrontational manner we can work together to discuss and learn more about strategies to create a harmonious home environment.

Sibling group session.  Ever heard the saying “What goes on tour, stays on tour”?  The motto for our Sibling group sessions is the same.  These sessions allow groups of siblings to come together and talk about the things about their brother/sister with Autism that really bug them.  Feeling like they have someone who can really understand them is not only healthy but you will find often they become a little more understanding themselves in the process.

Swimming lessons.  2/3 of the world is covered by water, that doesn’t count the swimming pools and hot tubs in many people’s back yards that you eye nervously when you and your child with Autism visit friends.  Every child should learn how to swim.  For children with Autism there are often more difficulties to overcome on this journey.  I have experience teaching swimming to children with Autism and a few tricks up my sleeve.
